Hi Everyone! I'm Alison, and for the past five summers, I've been teaching cooking to kids at a summer camp. I started working with kids who have a variety of food allergies and finding recipes that they can eat because I believe that EVERYONE should be able to be a part of the fun in the kitchen.
In 2013, I started cooking dinners with twin teenage boys, Mark and Ben. Mark has numerous severe food allergies, especially to eggs and nuts. I've been searching for recipes that he has always wanted to try (donuts!!) and foods that he has never imagined (think risotto, or a nut-free pesto and broccoli pizza) and adapting recipes so that Mark can eat everything in them -- and also so that all of us like all of the ingredients!
This blog is where we will document our experiences, as of Spring 2014, and share our amazing recipes, plus our best tips and techniques for making cooking with kids and without allergens as epic as possible. I hope that you will try out the recipes, whether or not you have food allergies, because the food we cook is delicious. These recipes celebrate the way that Mark, Ben, and I eat when we are together. And a huge shout out to Mark and Ben's mom, Arlene, for bringing us all together and making That Egg-Free Life possible :)
From Worst Cooks in America marathons to endless episodes of Chopped, from our kitchen to yours, buon appetito!
