As I skim recipes, I see the potential in them to turn them into egg-free, Mark-friendly recipes. I often contemplate my "egg privilege" and the privilege of my other kids to eat things like eggs, peanut butter, and raw vegetables. When I cook for other people, I often make Mark and Ben's favorites because they are my favorites too, and if they passed the test of two kiddos and myself, surely they will be loved by my parents or other kiddos or friends! I glory in making French toast with non-allergic kiddos, but at the same time, I miss roasted carrots and vegan donuts. I genuinely like roasting the heck out of a package of baby carrots!
I am nostalgic for the days when That Egg-Free Life took up two or three of my evenings. So many happy afternoons and nights were spent with my kiddos, cooking up steak with lime sauce, chicken and waffles, fried rice, bread... :-)
Now we are down to about one day per month, as we accommodate everyone's busy schedules. Mark and Ben are in high school, with all the time commitments that high school entails. I know they will do awesome and change the world. September was burst tomato pasta sauce with box pasta. October, I am planning for homemade white bread for sandwiches with roasted carrots using the East Hill Farm signature bread recipe. We've made it two or three times before, and it is one of our favorite cooking lessons of all time.
I wish I were teaching cooking lessons more often. I have Alana, and I have one other family, but that means about once or twice a week of cooking lessons, and I would prefer three days.
DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE COOKING LESSONS? SEND THEM MY WAY!
I will work with your food allergies, your picky eaters, your kashrut. After all, what would The Egg-Free Life be for if not to share the food love with as many kiddos as possible?! :-) Bring on the restrictions, and the food only gets better because we will make it with extra love and energy and thought!
I promise to teach kids confidence in the kitchen that will carry over into the rest of their lives. I will empower kids who were once afraid of foods. I will work the magic of teaching and of cooking. I can change the way a family eats. This is how I will make the world a better place. So, let me know if you have any more kiddos in need of cooking lessons :) :) :)
